Savvy metro-Detroiters have known for many years about the first-rate
productions of classic and modern masterpieces at Wayne State’s
Hilberry Theatre. The rotating repertory style of presenting seven
plays in an eight-month season has established the Hilberry as a
cultural institution
in the heart of Detroit, attracting some 40,000 annually. The company
also performs high school matinees for nearly 10,000 students each
year.
“The new season is one with massive appeal to the Greater
Detroit area and will help fulfill our mission of educating and
entertaining in the heart of Detroit,” says Blair Anderson,
chair, Department of Theatre.
The Hilberry is the nation’s longest running graduate repertory
company. Students from across the country come to Detroit to participate
in its rigorous audition process. Only about 50 of the most promising
theatre artists are accepted each year.
