Inspiring Achievement

WSU has programs designed to challenge and inspire the community’s elementary, middle and high school students. These programs are among the finest in the country and give the students advantages their counterparts elsewhere would find hard to match.

For example, at TechTown, a 12-block research and technology park that opened in 2004, students from Detroit’s Denby, Cass Technical and University Preparatory high schools gained valuable, real-world experience. Students worked with TechTown companies and staff members throughout the fall semester of 2005.

Another program is Women in Engineering Training, which teaches algebra and communications to 14-year-old girls. During the course of the program, they use their newly gained skills to create
their own Web sites.
